People in Shelby County may be able to get their coronavirus vaccines at one of 11 local Walmarts as early as Wednesday, Feb. 3

Walmart will offer COVID-19 vaccines in Shelby County

Last week, Alisa Haushalter, director of Shelby County Health Department, announced the retailer would begin offering the vaccine in the Memphis area, as part of a statewide effort to make the vaccine more available. Eleven Walmarts in the county will be participating.

Representatives from the pharmacies said that signups could open as early as Wednesday morning, but vaccine distribution will vary based on staffing. A representative from the Walmart Pharmacy located at 6727 Raleigh LaGrange Road said it will take appointments and begin distribution on Wednesday. At the Walmart in Bartlett at 8400 Highway 64, a representative said that they will begin distribution on Thursday.

Walmart has been managing vaccine signups on their website for vaccinations in other states, including just across the river in Crittenden County, Arkansas.

They will be appointment-only, and only offered to eligible people in accordance with the vaccination phases. To reserve an appointment, users will have to create a account. Currently, the county is only vaccinating those in groups 1a1 and 1a2, along with people aged 75 and older.
