Glankler Brown member Michael P. Coury has been named a fellow of the Tennessee Bar Foundation, an association of 868 attorneys across the state. The foundation's purpose is two-fold: to honor attorneys who have distinguished themselves in the profession and community, and to administer a grant-making program. Coury concentrates his practice in bankruptcy and creditors’ rights law, business reorganizations, workouts, and business and commercial litigation.

Joelle Goan has joined Somavac Medical Solutions Inc., a medical technology company focused on post-operative care, as program manager. In her new role, she will aid in product development and commercial launch of the company’s flagship product, the Somavac Sustained Vacuum Device. Prior to joining Somavac, Goan was senior product manager at Olympus Surgical Technologies America, where she developed business case and portfolio roadmaps for new products. She holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Tennessee.

Shelby Peranich has been promoted to director of community engagement at Start Co. She previously served as Start Co.'s community manager. In her new role, Peranich is focused on engaging entrepreneurs in the greater Memphis community; creating and growing relationships with partners and clients; and managing and enhancing Start Co. initiatives, such as Smart City, minority business efforts and university engagement.

Leann Grabski has joined Start Co. as accelerator operations manager, supporting the day-to-day activities and management of accelerator programs. Grabski has a background in nonprofit management, and has spent the past five years working in Memphis to expand opportunities and services for youth within the areas of food insecurity, arts and education. She previously managed teams of AmeriCorps members with City Year, and also worked with Feeding America at the Mid-South Food Bank as a Child Hunger Corps member. Grabski has a bachelor’s degree in social work from the State University of New York at Brockport and a Master of Science in public service management from DePaul University.

Chad Cunningham has joined First Tennessee Bank as a relationship manager. His primary duties will be providing a full range of banking services to companies with annual sales of up to $20 million. A 2009 graduate of the University of Mississippi, Cunningham has worked in the banking industry for eight years, helping companies increase profitability and improve cash flow by providing financing and cash management solutions.

Al Da Silva and Ron Wells, both of Shelby County, have been selected to participate in the University of Tennessee at Martin’s WestStar Leadership Program class of 2019. Da Silva is director of operations for University Plastic Surgeons, while Wells is director of the Millington Center at Southwest Tennessee Community College. They join 28 other participants from 15 counties at a series of seminars held through June that focus on topics such as economic development, public policy, education and technology. The WestStar Leadership Program, founded at UT Martin in 1989, equips regional leaders with skills and knowledge designed to impact the educational, economic and social development of West Tennessee, while also providing members with a network of community-minded individuals committed to serving the area. 

Opera America, the national service organization for opera, has awarded Opera Memphis trustee Charlie Schaffler a 2019 National Opera Trustee Recognition Award. The annual awards recognize outstanding trustees of U.S. opera companies for exemplary leadership, generosity and audience-building efforts. A Memphis native, Schaffler co-founded Gorham/Schaffler Inc., an HVAC supply company, in 1971 and served as its president for the next 40 years. Opera America will honor him and the other National Opera Trustee Recognition Award winners at a Feb. 22 dinner and reception in New York City.

Celia Newman has joined Kevin Whitted Basketball Services, a year-round player development curriculum and training camp, as director of academic services & sports program management. Newman has more than 10 years’ experience working with athletes both academically and athletically, and is the founder of Elite Level Prep, a personal, academic and athletic development program aimed at student-athletes. She holds a bachelor's degree in athletic training from the University of Tennessee at Martin and a master's degree in sports and wellness leadership from Austin Peay State University.  
With her addition, KWBS is partnering with Elite Level Prep to offer two new programs: “She’s Got Game,” which focuses on exposing and encouraging female basketball players in the areas of basketball, beauty and being a boss; and “Elevate Your Game,” a student-athlete development program that includes an eight-week ACT prep boot camp and life skills development.

Forest To Floor, a wholesale hardwood flooring distributor and design center, has added two employees at its Memphis location.

  • Scott Dabbs, operations manager, will be responsible for overseeing the company’s sales teams, and day-to-day operations in the Memphis location. Dabbs has more than 10 years’ experience in project and operations management in the flooring and installation industries, including experience in business development, sales management, project management and recruiting.
  • Jennifer Evers, outside sales manager, will manage the company’s sales efforts in Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi. Evers has a background in interior design and brings nearly 20 years of sales experience to her new role.

Scott Morgan has joined Shannon & Waterman, a manufacturer of luxury custom wide-plank flooring for home and office, as sales manager, Southeast. Morgan, who will be based in the company’s Memphis office, will be responsible for directing sales in the Southeast U.S. region. Morgan previously worked in outside sales as territory manager for 13 years with Standard Sales Co. L.P. in Olive Branch.
