Peggy Burch has joined The Daily Memphian as community engagement editor.

Previously, Burch worked as a reporter, arts and entertainment editor and deputy metro editor at The Commercial Appeal. She is a contributing writer for the Humanities Tennessee literary website, Chapter 16.

Burch has a bachelor's degree in journalism from the Newhouse School at Syracuse University, and a master's degree in English from the University of Mississippi.

“We are very excited to have Peggy join The Daily Memphian,” said editor-in-chief James Overstreet. “Peggy’s experience, talent and versatility will be a tremendous addition to our newsroom.

"And as community engagement editor, she will be instrumental in helping us build relationships with areas of Memphis that are underserved and expand our reach to provide content to as many people as possible.”

Burch said she found the idea of being a community engagement editor very appealing.

"This new project, The Daily Memphian, is such a great thing, not just for journalism in the city, but for public conversation in the city," she said. "It's really exciting to be part of that."
