The Crone Law Firm has expanded into Chicago with a staff of experts in employment law.

“We look forward to helping employees, executives and entrepreneurs in the Chicago area find win-win solutions to workplace issues,” said Alan G. Crone, who has practiced law more than 30 years here.

He started his firm in 2016.

“We’ve been getting more and more Chicago business,” Crone said, starting with a client who introduced others.

“Illinois has employment laws that make employment law a little more important than it is here, maybe,” he said. “They have a lot more state law protections than Tennessee does for wrongful discrimination.”

In 2022, Crone expanded into St. Louis. For the short term, Edward Rolwes, that office’s managing attorney, will lead the work in Illinois. He is licensed to practice in Missouri and Illinois.

The offices give Crone more access to Illinois business.

“Illinois is a big market, and it’s a lot to bite off, but we are enjoying the challenge,” Crone said. “We’ll have a fully built-out team there very soon, and we’re looking to maybe acquire a practice up there.”

Crone, a former chairman of the Tennessee Republican Party, was appointed to fill Shea Flinn’s unfinished term on the Memphis City Council in 2015. He also served as special counsel to Mayor Jim Strickland in Strickland’s first term. Crone left the position in early 2020.

A few months later, Gov. Bill Lee named Crone to a statewide economic panel that advises him in the early months of the pandemic.

The Crone firm is one of few law firms in the region that practices only employment law.

The new office is in Olympia Fields, Illinois, about 35 miles south of downtown Chicago.
