MLGW recruiting from high schools, Southwest

By , Daily Memphian Published: March 01, 2026 4:00 AM CT

Memphis Light, Gas and Water launched a customer service program last year that helped decrease caller wait times from 48 minutes to 41 seconds, all while giving Memphians a head start into a career.

The Customer Service Career Academy is one of three workforce-development initiatives at MLGW, alongside the Utility Bootcamp and the Automotive Technology Bootcamp. These programs help give high school students the training they need for careers at MLGW.

The program was launched as part of a plan to decrease wait times at the 150-person call center.
