The AM/DM podcast: What’s next for St. Jude

By , Daily Memphian Published: February 25, 2026 6:11 AM CT

The AM/DM is The Daily Memphian’s weekday podcast. Listen in every morning around 6:30 a.m. to get the news you need for the day, as well as a critical — but quick — interview on a larger story.

After more than 40 years at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and over a decade as its president and CEO, Dr. James Downing announced last week he is stepping down.

During his time as the head of St. Jude, Downing oversaw a major expansion of the main campus, and it’s one that continues to this day.

But what happens now?

Today, we’ll introduce you to new business reporter Steve Bohnel and we’ll chat about Downing’s new role, his possible replacement and even about curing cancer.
