College football’s postseason may change, but AutoZone Liberty Bowl officials feel secure

College football’s bowl system is in a holding pattern as the sport weighs expanding the College Football Playoff to 24 teams. The AutoZone Liberty Bowl is not immune to the uncertainty, but its leaders believe Memphis is better positioned than most bowls to weather whatever changes come next.
Not all of this is new news, of course. Daily Memphian senior writer Tim Buckley wrote about what might be on the horizon for the Liberty Bowl and its conference tie-ins in June.
In the months since, however, more reporting has surfaced that paints a bleak picture for traditional bowls — at least on the surface.
