Dr. Tony Alleman, a hyperbaric medicine expert from Regional One Health, has been tapped by NASA to join a team of doctors working to make space travel safer for astronauts.

The team’s first meeting is Tuesday, June 4, at Johnson Space Center Houston, Texas, where they’ll examine research and clinical data on decompression sickness in astronauts.

The only known cure for decompression sickness is hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and Alleman is one of the nation’s leading experts in the field.

As medical director for wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy at Regional One Health’s Wound Care Center at 890 Madison Ave., Alleman helps patients overcome wounds that have failed to respond to previous medical treatment.
