No one bid on Shelby County’s autopsy contract. Here’s what happens now.

The West Tennessee Regional Forensic Center — critically important for performing autopsies for 20 counties — is facing uncertainty as no organization has bid on a contract to operate the center.

The current contract expires June 30, and a request for proposal (RFP) issued April 1 seeking an operator for the next term — July 1 to June 30, 2026 — ended without a bid.
