The Works eyes South Memphis site for affordable housing

The Works Inc. is building affordable housing in the inner city, a challenging environment for construction.
For its next project, the community development organization is trying to acquire the former Orleans Elementary School site in South Memphis.
The Memphis-Shelby County Schools board is expected to vote April 28 on whether to sell the 2.3-acre site at 1400 McMillan St. to The Works for $61,000, its appraised value.
