Shelby County coronavirus cases increase by more than 250

With 256 new coronavirus cases confirmed, Shelby County now has its largest single-day increase since the pandemic began. That’s a 33% increase from the previous highest single-day increase.
The second and third highest single-day increases occurred on June 9, with 192 new cases and June 2, with 190 new cases.
The 256 cases come from 2,592 tests administered, a positivity rate of 9.9%. Nearly 100,000 tests (98,105) have been administered in Shelby County.
According to Shelby County Health Department data, there are a total of 6,892 confirmed cases. Considered recovered are 4,744 of the cases, leaving 2,009 active cases and 139 deaths.
The number of deaths remains the same since the Sunday, June 14 update.
The Tennessee Department of Health reports statewide figures at 2 p.m. daily.
As of Sunday, June 14, there were 30,432 reported coronavirus cases, an increase of 891 from the day prior. That is the second highest daily increase statewide.
The previous highest daily increase was 1,156 on May 1.
In Tennessee, there have been 475 deaths resulting from coronavirus, according to the agency’s data.
