Shelby County coronavirus cases top 12,000

There are 190 more reported coronavirus cases and two more reported deaths resulting from the disease in Shelby County as of July 6, 2020, according to the Shelby County Health Department.
That brings the area’s total to 12,019 reported cases and 200 reported deaths.
Editor’s Note: Due to a data outage, new cases on June 30 for Shelby County and June 29 for Tennessee, in the graph, represent two days of data.
The 190 new cases come from 1,443 tests, a positivity rate of 13.2%.
The highest single-day case increases (and corresponding daily positivity rates) in Shelby County since the beginning of the pandemic are as follows:
- 442 – July 3 (12.9% positivity rate)
- 405 – July 5 (16.1% positivity rate)
- 394 – July 2 (12.5% positivity rate)
- 385 – June 20 (12.3% positivity rate)
- 380 – July 4 (12.5% positivity rate)
Overall, 142,416 tests have been administered in Shelby County. So far, 7,509 people in the area are considered recovered from the virus.
The Tennessee Department of Health releases statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. daily.
As of Sunday, July 5, the agency reported 51,431 coronavirus cases, including 646 deaths, 2,871 hospitalizations and 30,254 considered recovered.
Nearly 900,000 tests (895,796) have been administered in Tennessee, according to the same data.
