Coronavirus: With 249 new cases, day’s positivity rate at 18%

The area now has 249 more coronavirus cases and six additional deaths from the disease, the Shelby County Health Department reported Wednesday morning.
Shelby County’s coronavirus total is now 14,804 cases and 229 deaths, according to the same data; 9,748 people are now considered recovered from the virus.
Those 249 new cases come from 1,379 tests, which gives the day a positivity rate of 18.1%.
In Shelby County, 162,448 coronavirus tests have been administered, with an overall positivity rate of 9.1%.
Within the region, 91% of acute care beds are being used, as of 5 p.m. July 14, according to the state’s Health Resource Tracking System.
Data is reflective of hospitals in Shelby, Lauderdale and Tipton counties in Tennessee, Crittenden County in Arkansas, and Desoto County in Mississippi.
With those numbers, 240 acute care beds are available.
Of 2,233 patients in acute care beds, 190 of them are COVID-19 positive and another 88 are under investigation for the virus, meaning about 13% of acute care patients are either COVID-19 positive or under investigation for the virus.
Within the region, 90% of ICU beds are being used; 44 ICU beds are available.
Of 407 patients in ICU beds, 129 are COVID-19 positive and another 25 are under investigation for the virus, meaning about 38% of ICU patients are either COVID-19 positive or under investigation for the virus.
The Tennessee Department of Health reports statewide coronavirus data at 2 p.m. daily.
As of Tuesday, July 14, the agency reported 66,788 coronavirus cases, including 767 deaths, 3,378 hospitalizations and 38,272 considered recovered.
About 1.1 million coronavirus tests have been administered in Tennessee.
