Number of COVID-positive patients in area ICUs drops below 100

The number of COVID-positive patients in area hospitals was 250, as of 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, according to the state’s Healthcare Resource Tracking System. And, fewer than 100 of the patients in area intensive care unit beds were COVID-positive.
About 26% of area ICU patients were either COVID-positive (91) or suspected of having the virus (6). And, about 8% of area acute care patients were either COVID-positive (159) or suspected of having the virus (24).
According to the same HRTS data, 87% of ICU beds and 90% of acute care beds were in use at area hospitals. The day prior those percentages were 87% of ICU beds and 88% of acute care beds.
According to the state’s HRTS, there were 58 ICU beds and 250 acute care beds available in area hospitals.
The Shelby County Health Department reported 128 new coronavirus cases and one new related death on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
Those 128 new cases come from 1,010 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 12.7%.
Shelby County’s reported total is now 26,656 coronavirus cases, including 23,301 recoveries, 2,988 active cases and 367 deaths.
The Tennessee Department of Health reports statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. daily.
As of Tuesday, Aug. 25, the agency reported 145,417 coronavirus cases including 1,628 deaths, 6,515 hospitalizations and 108,035 recoveries.
About 2.1 million coronavirus tests have been administered in Tennessee.
