Coronavirus: Shelby County August death total tops 100

For the month of August, the Shelby County Health Department reported 102 coronavirus-related deaths. That is a new high for the area, which saw 83 deaths in July, 76 in June, 59 in May and 44 in April.
The Shelby County Health Department also reported 120 new coronavirus cases and four new related deaths on Monday, Aug. 31.
Shelby County’s reported total is now 27,587 coronavirus cases and 382 related deaths.
The latest available hospital data was from 5 p.m. Aug. 28
As of 5 p.m. Friday, there were 237 COVID-positive people in area hospitals, according to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System.
According to the HRTS, 86% of area intensive care unit beds and 88% of area acute care beds were in use, as of Aug. 28.
About 27% of ICU patients were either COVID-positive (93) or suspected of having the virus (6) and about 8% of acute care patients were either COVID-positive (144) or suspected of having the virus (31).
And 62 ICU and 285 acute care beds were available.
The state Department of Health reports statewide coronavirus statistics at 2 p.m. daily.
As of Sunday, Aug. 30, the agency reported 153,115 coronavirus cases including 1,747 deaths, 6,840 hospitalizations and 114,769 recoveries.
About 2.2 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
