Health Department reports 125 new cases after 161 tests

Clarification: On Monday, the Shelby County Health Department reported 125 new coronavirus cases from 161 tests, which would give the day a positivity rate of 77.6%. During the Tuesday COVID-19 Joint Task Force briefing, chief epidemiologist David Sweat said there had been a “glitch” and that the number was actually 1,500. Public information Chip Washington confirmed that the number was 1,521. That would give the day a positivity rate of 8.2%.
Shelby County Health Department reported 125 new cases of coronavirus for a total 28,332 county-wide since early March.
Of the 161 reported tests, 125 were positive.
The county reported one new death for a total of 397. An estimated 25,469 people have recovered and 2,466 cases in the county are active.
The most updated hospital data is from Friday when 90% of acute care beds were in use. Additionally, 86% of intensive care units have patients. There are 61 available in the metro area. At this time 23% of ICU beds are being for COVID-19 positive patients.
The Tennessee Department of Health reported 983 new cases Monday, Sept. 7, for a total of 165,109. Four more Tennesseans died from COVID-related illness, bringing the total number of deaths in the state to 1,869.
