Coronavirus: Fewer than 100 new cases reported

The Shelby County Health Department reported fewer than 100 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, Sept. 23. The last time the agency reported less than 100 cases was exactly two weeks ago, Wednesday, Sept. 9, when it reported 69 new cases.
In addition to the 96 new cases, the Health Department also reported three new related deaths today.
The 96 cases come from 1,759 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 5.5%.
Shelby County’s reported total is now 30,690 coronavirus cases, including 28,510 recoveries/inactive cases, 1,731 active cases and 449 deaths.
There were 177 COVID-positive patients in area hospital beds as of 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, according to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System; 71 of those were in intensive care units.
About 6% of area ICU patients were COVID-positive (71) or suspected of having the virus (7). About 21% of area acute care patients were COVID-positive (106) or suspected of having the virus (28).
And 45 area ICU and 288 acute care beds were in use.
The state Department of Health reports statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m.
As of Tuesday, Sept. 22, the agency reported 185,148 coronavirus cases, including 2,261 deaths, 766 current hospitalizations and 167,778 inactive cases/recoveries.
About 2.7 million coronavirus tests have been administered in Tennessee.
