Number of COVID-positive patients in area ICUs falls below 60

The number of COVID-positive patients in area intensive care units has fallen to below 60, as of 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, per state data.
According to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System, there were 168 patients in area hospital beds; 55 of them in ICUs.
According to the HRTS, 89% of area ICU and acute care beds were in use.
About 18% patients in area ICU beds were either COVID-positive (55) or suspected of having the virus (14). About 7% in area acute care beds were either COVID-positive (113) or suspected of having the virus (31).
And 48 area ICU and 276 area acute care beds were available.
The Shelby County Health Department reported 85 new coronavirus cases and two new related deaths on Friday, Sept. 25.
Those 85 cases come from 1,936 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 4.4%.

Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 30,922 cases, including 28,840 inactive cases/recoveries, 1,631 active cases and 451 deaths.
The Tennessee Department of Health reports statewide coronavirus statistics at 2 p.m. daily.
As of Thursday, Sept. 24, the agency reported 187,544 coronavirus cases, including 2,310 deaths, 708 current hospitalizations and 171,153 inactive cases/recoveries.
About 2.8 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
