Number of local COVID-positive ICU patients remains under 60

Since last Thursday, the number of COVID-positive patients in area intensive care unit beds has hovered in the 50-range, while the number of COVID-patients in area acute care beds remains around the 110-mark.
The Shelby County Health Department reported 164 new daily coronavirus cases and no new related deaths on Monday, Sept. 28.
Per state data, a total of 166 COVID-positive patients were in area hospital beds as of 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27; 57 of those were in ICUs.
According to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System, 79% of area ICU and 87% of area acute care beds were being used. The ICU number, since it’s under 80, is in the “green” category.
About 18% of area ICU patients were either COVID-positive (57) or suspected of having the virus (4). About 6% of area acute care patients were either COVID-positive (109) or suspected of having the virus (15).
And 88 area ICU and 329 area acute care beds were available.
The 164 cases come from 4,686 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 3.5%.

The reported coronavirus total for Shelby County is now 31,191 cases, including 29,247 inactive cases/recoveries, 1,687 active cases and 457 deaths.
The Tennessee Department of Health reports statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. daily.
As of Sunday, Sept. 27, the agency reported 192,995 coronavirus cases, including 2,377 deaths, 728 current hospitalizations and 175,143 inactive/recoveries.
About 2.8 million coronavirus tests have been administered in Tennessee.
