Nearly 300 cases added to Shelby coronavirus total

The Shelby County Health Department reported 288 new coronavirus cases and one new coronavirus-related death on Friday, Oct. 30.
Those 288 cases come from 3,169 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 9.1%.

In Shelby County, 550,303 coronavirus tests have been administered; 8% of those have had a positive result. And 318,250 people have been tested for coronavirus; 12% of them have received a positive result. (The total numbers differ because some people have been tested for coronavirus multiple times.)
Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 37,480 cases, including 34,022 inactive cases (recoveries), 2,887 active cases and 571 deaths.
There were 278 COVID-positive patients in area hospital beds as of 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, according to the state’s Healthcare Resource Tracking System; 82 of them were in intensive care units.
According to the HRTS, 90% of area ICU beds and 88% of area acute care beds were being used.
About 22% of area ICU patients were either COVID-positive (82) or suspected of having coronavirus (3). About 10% of area acute care patients were either COVID-positive (196) or suspected of having coronavirus (21).
And 41 area ICU beds and 290 area acute care beds were available.
The Tennessee Department of Health releases statewide coronavirus numbers at 2 p.m. every day.
As of Thursday, the agency reported a total of 256,880 coronavirus cases, including 3,263 deaths, 1,394 current hospitalizations and 227,271 inactive cases (recoveries).
About 3.6 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
