COVID-19 case total in Shelby County surpasses 42,000

Shelby County Health Department reported 373 new cases of COVID-19 Sunday.

The total since early March is 42,120. The Health Department estimates 38,259 of those people have recovered. Two deaths were reported Sunday and 612 people have died with the virus.

The new cases come from 4,450 tests. The daily positivity rate is slightly below 8.4%. 


COVID-19 hospitalizations approach peak July numbers


Hospital capacity is reported on weekdays. The most recent data is from Thursday at 5 p.m. At that time 89% of acute care beds were occupied and 12% of those patients had COVID-19.

Patients filled 90% of intensive care unit beds in Memphis and surrounding areas, and 23% of those patients had COVID-19.

The Tennessee Department of Health reported 5,187 new cases Sunday for at total of 310,937 since early March. An additional 16 deaths were reported for a total of 3,893. The state estimates 270,091 Tenneseeans have recovered.
