Coronavirus: Hospitalizations still top 500
The number of COVID-positive patients in area hospitals continues to rise.
There were 511 COVID-positive patients in area hospitals as of 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, according to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System.
According to the HRTS, 92% of area intensive care unit beds and 93% of area acute care beds were in use.
About 36% of area ICU patients were either COVID-positive (137) or suspected of having coronavirus (5). About 20% of area acute care patients were either COVID-positive (374) or suspected of having the virus (64).
And 34 area ICU beds and 178 area acute care beds were available.
The above figures are inclusive of all hospital facilities in Shelby, Tipton and Lauderdale counties in Tennessee; Crittenden County, Arkansas; and DeSoto County, Mississippi.
The Shelby County Health Department reported 549 coronavirus cases and no new related deaths on Wednesday, Dec. 2.
Those 549 cases come from 4,911 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 11.2%.
In Shelby County, 677,364 coronavirus tests have been performed; about 9% have returned positive results. And 374,147 people have been tested for coronavirus; about 13% have received positive results. The numbers differ because some people have been tested more than once.
Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 49,263 cases, including 44,919 inactive cases (recoveries), 3,672 active cases and 672 deaths.
Tennessee’s Department of Health releases statewide coronavirus statistics at 2 p.m. daily.
As of Monday, the agency reported 380,186 coronavirus cases, including 4,638 deaths, 2,369 current hospitalizations and 336,131 inactive cases (recoveries).
About 4.6 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
