Coronavirus: Nearly 700 new cases reported
Shelby County had nearly 700 new coronavirus cases, the highest one-day increase since Nov. 17, when 835 new cases were reported.
The Health Department reported 695 new coronavirus cases and six related deaths on Thursday, Dec. 10. The total of COVID-related deaths is 722.
The 695 new cases come from 6,392 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 10.9%.
Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 53,058 coronavirus cases, including 48,741 inactive cases (recoveries), 3,595 active cases and 722 deaths.
There were 463 COVID-positive patients in area hospital beds as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System.
According to the HRTS, 92% of area intensive care unit beds and area acute care beds were in use.
About 38% of area ICU patients were COVID-positive (150) or suspected of having the virus (5). About 18% of area acute care patients were COVID-positive (313) or suspected of having the virus (93).
And 39 area ICU beds and 192 area acute care beds were available.
Tennessee’s Department of Health reports statewide coronavirus statistics at 2 p.m. daily.
As of Wednesday, the agency reported 422,962 total coronavirus cases, including 5,171 deaths, 2,605 current hospitalizations and 376,851 inactive cases (recoveries).
About 4.8 million coronavirus tests have been administered in Tennessee.
