Coronavirus: About 300 new cases, 8 new deaths reported

The Shelby County Health Department reported about 300 new coronavirus cases and eight new coronavirus-related deaths on Monday, Dec. 28.
The 305 new cases come from 1,957 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 15.6%.

Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 65,713 cases, including 58,103 inactive cases (recoveries), 6,761 active cases and 849 deaths.
The latest available hospital capacity data is from Wednesday, when 95% of area intensive care unit and 92% of area acute care beds were in use, according to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System. At that time, 20 area ICU and 182 area acute care beds were available.
The Health Department said that hospital capacity information for Thursday through Sunday will be included in the update tomorrow.
The Tennessee Department of Health releases statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. daily.
The agency reported 564,080 total coronavirus cases as of Sunday, including 6,512 deaths, 2,813 current hospitalizations and 480,227 inactive cases (recoveries).
About 5.5 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
As of Dec. 25, 53,258 people in Tennessee have received a COVID-19 vaccine, according to the Department of Health.
In Shelby County, 0.47% of the population has received one of the two required doses of a coronavirus vaccine.
