Number of COVID-positive patients in area ICUs dips to November level

The number of COVID-positive patients in area intensive care unit hospital beds was 83, as of 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, according to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System.
That number is the lowest since early November.
There were 324 COVID-positive people in area hospital beds; 241 were in area acute care beds.
According to the HRTS, 91% of area ICU and 90% of area acute care beds were in use.
About 22% of patients in area ICU beds were COVID-positive (83) or suspected of having the coronavirus (2). About 12% of patients in area acute care beds were either COVID-positive (241) or suspected of having the coronavirus (20).
And 29 area ICU and 242 area acute care beds were available.
Bed capacity is calculated by subtracting beds occupied by patients, unstaffed beds and beds that are otherwise unavailable.
The capacity figures are inclusive of all hospital facilities in Shelby, Tipton and Lauderdale counties in Tennessee as well as facilities in Crittenden County, Arkansas, and DeSoto County, Mississippi.

Baptist-Memphis had 100 COVID patients as of Monday, down from a high of 172 at its peak this winter. Of them, 23 were in ICU, and 16 were on ventilators, according to Dr. Stephen Threlkeld’s Monday afternoon briefing.
The Shelby County Health Department reported 376 new coronavirus cases and 15 new related deaths on Monday, Feb. 1.
The 376 new cases come from 5,085 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 7.4%.
Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 83,029 cases, including 77,781 inactive cases, 3,968 active cases and 1,280 deaths.
Shelby County has administered 61,780 doses, as of Feb. 1, with 46,660 people having received at least one dose and another 15,120 people having received both doses (fully vaccinated).

The Health Department is vaccinating people is phases 1a1 and 1a2, which includes first responders, health care workers and funeral/mortuary workers, as well as those 75 years and older.
The Tennessee Department of Health releases coronavirus statistics daily at 2 p.m.
Tennessee’s coronavirus total is now 727,861, including 9,650 deaths, 1,574 current hospitalizations and 683,295 inactive cases.
About 6.3 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
