Coronavirus: Cases climb again after downward trend

Coronavirus cases have climbed again in Shelby County after they went down earlier this week.
According to the latest Shelby County Health Department data, 67,231 people in Shelby County have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose; 24,650 people have received both COVID-19 vaccine doses, meaning they are fully vaccinated.
On Friday, Feb. 12, cases climbed to 213.
And 91,881 total doses have been administered in Shelby County.
Currently, Shelby County is vaccinating phases 1a1, 1a2 and those ages 70 and older on an appointment-only basis. Slots are currently filled, but people can check online or call (901) 222-SHOT (7468) to be notified when appointments are available. People also can sign up for the VaxQueue standby list.
The Shelby County Health Department reported 213 new coronavirus cases and 18 new coronavirus-related deaths on Friday. A notice was attached to Friday’s deceased number reading, “There are 18 new deaths reported today with Investigation date ranging from 1/20/2021- 02/09/2021.”
Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 85,807 cases, including 81,562 inactive cases (recoveries), 2,821 active cases and 1,424 deaths.
There were 256 COVID-positive patients in area hospital beds as of 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, according to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System. According to the HRTS, 94% of area intensive care unit and 88% of area acute care beds were in use.
And 26 area ICU and 286 area acute care beds were available.
Bed capacity is calculated by subtracting beds occupied by patients, unstaffed beds and beds that are otherwise unavailable.
The capacity figures are inclusive of all hospital facilities in Shelby, Tipton and Lauderdale counties in Tennessee as well as facilities in Crittenden County, Arkansas, and DeSoto County, Mississippi.
The Tennessee Department of Health releases statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. daily.
As of Friday, Tennessee’s reported coronavirus total is 752,033 cases, including 10, 812 deaths, 1,232 current hospitalizations and 716,136 inactive cases (recoveries).
About 6,547,434 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
