Coronavirus: Stable case volume brings week’s average below 200
The Shelby County Health Department reported 156 new coronavirus cases today, Feb. 15, with one new death.
The past week’s numbers — including several days below 200 new cases — have brought the area’s seven-day moving average down as well, to 190.
Today’s new cases come from a total of 2,478 new tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 6.3%.
Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 86,406 cases, including 82,332 inactive cases (recoveries), 4,074 active cases and 1,441 deaths.
According to the latest Shelby County Health Department data, 71,586 people in Shelby County have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose; 27,512 people have received both COVID-19 vaccine doses, meaning they are fully vaccinated.
And 99,098 total doses have been administered in Shelby County.
With winter weather conditions blanketing the Mid-South this week, the Health Department is taking operations on a day-by-day basis and only providing essential services today due to inclement weather.
All appointments from Thursday, Feb. 11, and Friday, Feb. 12, have been rescheduled for Thursday and Friday of this week, respectively.
There were 256 COVID-positive patients in area hospital beds as of 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, according to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System. According to the HRTS, 88% of area intensive care unit and 94% of area acute care beds were in use.
And 26 area ICU and 286 area acute care beds were available.
Bed capacity is calculated by subtracting beds occupied by patients, unstaffed beds and beds that are otherwise unavailable.
The capacity figures are inclusive of all hospital facilities in Shelby, Tipton and Lauderdale counties in Tennessee as well as facilities in Crittenden County, Arkansas, and DeSoto County, Mississippi.
