Coronavirus: Shelby County reports nearly 150 new cases

The Shelby County Health Department reported 149 new coronavirus cases and one additional death Saturday, May 1.

The 149 additional cases from 2,817 tests, yielding a 5.3% positivity rate.

Active cases in Shelby County stand at 1,638, an increase of 16 from the 1,622 reported Friday.

Overall, the Health Department has reported 95,598 total coronavirus cases and 1,620 deaths, classifying 92,340 cases as inactive/recovered.

A total of 313,413 people are vaccinated in Shelby County. The number of people partially vaccinated is 97,358, while 216,055 people are fully vaccinated.


Economy recovering, but it won’t look the same, experts say


About 1.2 million COVID-19 tests have been performed in Shelby County, yielding a 9% positivity rate.

As of Friday, Tennessee’s coronavirus total is now 847,430, including 12,197 deaths, 819 current hospitalizations and 822,733 are inactive cases, according to the state Department of Health.

Updated hospital capacity data was not available Saturday morning. 

Roughly 7.6 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
