Coronavirus: More than 130 new cases reported
The Shelby County Health Department reported more than 100 new coronavirus cases for the third consecutive day Saturday, May 15.
The Health Department reported 139 new COVID-19 cases and one additional death Saturday.
The previous day’s testing numbers are not available, meaning Saturday’s daily positivity rate cannot be calculated.
A total of 328,495 people are vaccinated in Shelby County. The number of people fully vaccinated is 241,933 and those partially vaccinated at 86,562.
Overall, the Health Department has reported 97,393 total coronavirus cases and 1,638 deaths, classifying 94,310 cases as inactive/recovered.
About 1.2 million COVID-19 tests have been performed in Shelby County, yielding a 9% positivity rate.
There were 220 COVID-19 patients in Memphis-area hospitals as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, the latest data available, according to Tennessee’s Healthcare Resource Tracking System.
Hospital capacity for ICU beds is at 91% use, and acute care beds are at 93% occupancy. The number of area ICU beds available is 35 with 174 acute care beds open.
Bed capacity is calculated by subtracting beds occupied by patients, unstaffed beds and beds that are otherwise unavailable.
Of the 220 COVID patients, 73 are in intensive care unit beds, with 147 in acute care beds.
Those who are COVID-positive or suspected of having the virus represent about 22% of ICU patients and 8% of acute care patients.
