Luck, longevity, prosperity and family — the Chinese New Year begins Wednesday, Jan. 29, and food is a big part of the celebration with many traditional dishes symbolizing good fortune and other such wishes for the coming year. 

This holiday, often called the Lunar New Year because the date is based off the lunar calendar, has more than 4,000 years of history and is the longest holiday of the year for China.
