Legendary guitarist Steve Cropper, the man behind so many Stax hits through his playing, his writing and his producing, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, his family confirmed. He was 84.

Cropper’s impact on modern music, from rock to soul to country and more, is almost immeasurable, as can be seen in the fact that he has been inducted into just about every music hall of fame imaginable.

In 1992, Cropper and his bandmates in Booker T. and the MGs were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That same year, he was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame, followed by the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005, the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2010, and the Memphis Music Hall of Fame in 2012 as part of Booker T. and the MGs and in 2019 as a solo artist.
