NEW ORLEANS — After the final buzzer sounded, Memphis’ Thierno Sylla hugged teammate Quante Berry and held him tight as if he’d never let go.

Simon Majok lifted Dug McDaniel in the air in jubilation.

Coach Penny Hardaway and several members of his staff who stood in front of the visitors’ bench inside New Orleans’ Devlin Fieldhouse appeared to let out a collective sigh of relief.
