If you find yourself in a rock fight, it’s a good idea to start throwing rocks.

Those sage words were courtesy of Bartlett coach Dion Real, whose team advanced to the championship game of the Region 8-4A tournament — while guaranteeing a spot in the sub-state round — with a victory over tournament host Southwind.

And Whitehaven coach Willie Kemp will certainly be able to relate. His Tigers found themselves in an ugly one with Houston in the other semifinal. But thanks to another gritty defensive performance, Kemp’s team earned the other spot in the final with a 58-48 win.
