Blinding flashes and the sounds of grinding metal filled the shop floor at Delta Technical College (DTC) on Friday, March 6 for its annual welding competition.

High school seniors across the Mid-South gathered early at the Horn Lake campus for a high-stakes test of their trade skills at the welding booths.

The event offered students an opportunity to showcase their technical abilities under the pressure of a ticking clock.

The teenagers competed for a combined total of $8,500 in scholarship money on the line to help further their technical education in skilled trades at DTC.
