Daily Jigsaw: Public art
Brightly colored depictions celebrating the Germantown Greenway’s character are greeting users as they walk, run or bike along the trail passing underneath Wolf River Boulevard.
Ten murals were added, with eight inside the tunnel between the Kimbrough trailhead and the Riverwoods State Natural Area.
The project, known as Riverwood Tunnel Murals, was an initiative of the Germantown Public Art Commission. The collection of paintings is the city’s first gallery, according to Cat Peña, Germantown’s public art manager. The tunnel’s eight murals were painted on a weather-resistant surface. Since they aren’t exposed to ultraviolet lights, they could last a decade.
