Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris says his portrait will be a constant presence at the Vasco Smith County Administration Building — but he won’t.
“I am out, and I got out alive,” Harris said at the unveiling of his portrait by artist Jared Small on Thursday, Aug. 27, at the National Civil Rights Museum after eight years as the county’s chief executive.
Monday is the last day of his second term of office with Mayor-elect Mickell Lowery and a Shelby County Board of Commissioners with a new majority. Both took the oath of office that day at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts and formally start their four-year terms Tuesday, Sept. 1.
