Daily Jigsaw: 100 years of green and gold
Green and gold filled the streets of South Memphis on Friday, Oct. 16, as generations of Booker T. Washington High alumni, students and supporters gathered to celebrate the school’s 100th anniversary.
Despite overcast skies and brisk temperatures, the parade and celebration brought out a crowd that included seniors using walkers and parents pushing babies in strollers. Some spectators waved pom-poms while others danced along the parade route as marching bands, decorated floats and alumni representing several decades made their way through the streets surrounding the school at 715 S. Lauderdale St.
“It’s amazing to be the oldest school in Memphis,” said Mia Green, a member of the class of 1983. “I’m excited to be a part of it.”
