Based on the real jam session of Dec. 4, 1956, at Sun Records in Memphis, where Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and a then-unknown Jerry Lee Lewis played together, “Million Dollar Quartet” is a jukebox musical.

It opened Friday, Oct. 16, at Theatre Memphis and continues through Nov. 7. There is no performance on Oct. 31.

Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux wrote the show’s book. Levi Kreis won a 2010 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his role as Lewis.

In the Theatre Memphis production, the actors, all Memphis natives, play instruments in more than 20 songs, including “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “I Walk the Line,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Hound Dog” and “Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On.”
