Coronavirus: Daily positivity rate above 16%; ICUs 86% full

Within the region, 86% of acute care and intensive care unit beds are being used, as of 5 p.m. July 12, according to the state’s Health Resource Tracking System.
Data is reflective of all hospitals in Shelby, Lauderdale and Tipton counties in Tennessee, Crittenden County in Arkansas, and Desoto County in Mississippi, except for the Memphis Veterans Administration Medical Center.
With those numbers, 376 acute care beds are available.
Of 2,126 patients in acute care beds, 191 of them are COVID-19 positive; another 129 are under investigation for the virus. Or, to put it differently, about 15% of acute care patients are either COVID-19 positive or under investigation for the virus.
In local ICUs, 62 beds are available. Of 376 ICU patients, 112 are COVID-19 positive and another 38 are under investigation for the virus, meaning 40% of ICU patients are either COVID-19 positive or under investigation for the virus.
As of Monday, July 13, there were 153 new coronavirus cases and one additional related death, reported the Shelby County Health Department.
Those 153 new cases come from 927 tests, a positivity rate of 16.5%; 155,836 tests have been administered in Shelby County, giving the county an overall positivity rate of 8.9%.
That brings the total to 13,855 reported coronavirus cases and 222 reported deaths; 9,146 people are considered to have recovered from the virus.
The Tennessee Department of Health reports statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. daily.
As of July 12, the agency reported 61,960 cases, including 741 deaths, 3,250 hospitalizations and 35,855 considered recovered.
More than one million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
