A private funeral service for Rev. Dr. Steve Montgomery will be held at 2 p.m. Friday.
Montgomery, who was senior pastor of Idlewild Presbyterian Church from 2000 until he retired in 2019, died last week from injuries suffered in a bike accident a few days before. He was 68.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the funeral will be a private family service. But it will be livestreamed on the church’s website beginning with the prelude at 1:50 p.m. It also will be broadcast live on WHBQ radio (AM 560, FM 96.1),
Idlewild congregants are invited to gather in their cars in the church’s parking lot for the playing of the carillon, which will begin at 1:30 p.m. to give thanks to God for Steve’s life and to bear witness to the resurrection.
“We grieve that we cannot be together in the sanctuary, nor outside of our parked cars in the parking lot,” church leaders said in an email to the congregation.
Montgomery is survived by his wife, Patti, and their two children, Aaron (AJ) and Sumita; his brothers, Rev. James (Jim) Montgomery of Indianapolis (Alyce); Rev. David Montgomery (Ann Marie) of Toledo, Ohio; and sister, Dorothy (Deedee) Montgomery Murphy (Pat), an educator in Atlanta.
