Coronavirus: 7-day case average continues downward slide

Shelby County’s 7-day coronavirus case average continues its downward trajectory.
The Shelby County Health Department reported 171 new coronavirus cases and three new related deaths on Thursday, Aug. 13.
Those 171 new cases come from 1,081 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 15.8%.
The reported total in Shelby County is now 24,347 coronavirus cases, including 20,063 recoveries, 316 deaths and 3,968 active cases.
According to the state’s Healthcare Resource Tracking System, there are 30 area intensive care unit and 189 area acute care hospital beds available, as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12.
According to the same data, 93% of area ICU beds and 92% of area acute care beds are being used.
The Tennessee Department of Health reports statewide coronavirus totals at 2 p.m. daily.
As of Wednesday, Aug. 12, the agency reported 126,393 coronavirus cases, including 1,289 deaths, 5,554 hospitalizations and 87,290 recoveries.
About 1.8 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
