Coronavirus: Daily cases fall back down below 100
In a week that has seen two consecutive days of new coronavirus cases over 200, the most recent figures are more in line with earlier in the month.
The Shelby County Health Department reported 82 new coronavirus cases and one new related death on Thursday, Oct. 8.
The 82 cases come from 2,550 tests, which gives the day a positivity rate of 3.2%.
Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 32,595 cases, including 30,660 inactive cases/recoveries, 1,441 active cases and 494 deaths.
In Shelby County, 477,824 coronavirus tests have been performed; 286,785 individuals have been tested for coronavirus. The numbers differ because some people have been tested multiple times.
As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, there were 186 COVID-positive patients in area hospital beds, per state data; 57 were in intensive care units.
According to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System, 90% of area ICU and 89% of area acute care beds were in use.
Roughly 17% of area ICU patients were either COVID-positive (57) or suspected of having coronavirus (5). About 6% of area acute care patients were either COVID-positive (129) or suspected of having the coronavirus (28).
And 40 area ICU and 269 area acute care beds were available.
The Tennessee Department of Health releases statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. daily.
As of Wednesday, Oct. 7, the agency reported 207,455 coronavirus cases, including 2,642 deaths, 971 current hospitalizations and 188,576 inactive cases/recoveries.
About 3.1 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
