More than 200 hospitalized with coronavirus in this area

More than 200 COVID-positive patients were in area hospital beds as of 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to state data. That number, 203, is the highest since Sept. 23, when there were 205 COVID-positive patients in area hospitals.

According to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System, 89% of area intensive care unit beds and 88% of area acute care beds were in use.

About 19% of area ICU patients were either COVID-positive (65) or suspected of having coronavirus (6). About 7% of area acute care patients were either COVID-positive (138) or suspected of having coronavirus (29).

And 47 area ICU beds and 291 area acute care beds were available.


Coronavirus numbers return to late July levels


After reporting nearly 350 new coronavirus cases yesterday, the Shelby County Health Department announced a number of cases on Wednesday that was more in line with those recorded in recent weeks.

The agency reported that there were 144 new coronavirus cases and two new related deaths on Wednesday, Oct. 14.

The 144 cases come from 2,038 tests, which gives the day a positivity rate of 7.1%.

In Shelby County, 496,947 coronavirus tests have been performed; 294,952 people have been tested for coronavirus. The numbers differ because the total testing volume includes people who have been tested more than once.

Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 33,625 cases, including 31,317 recoveries, 1,769 active cases and 539 deaths.

The Tennessee Department of Health releases statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. daily.

As of Tuesday, the agency reported 218,829 coronavirus cases, including 2,797 deaths, 1,068 current hospitalizations and 196,940 recovered.

More than 3.2 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
