Coronavirus: Almost 250 new cases reported

The Shelby County Health Department reported 246 new coronavirus cases and four new related deaths on Friday, Dec. 11.

The 246 new cases come from 2,412 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 10.2%.

Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 53,304 cases, including 49,267 inactive cases (recoveries), 3,311 active cases and 726 deaths.

There were 469 COVID-positive patients in area hospitals as of 5 p.m. Thursday, according to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System.

According to the HRTS, 93% of area ICU beds and 91% of area acute care beds were in use.

About 36% of area ICU patients were either COVID-positive (140) or suspected of having coronavirus (6). About 18% of area acute care patients were either COVID-positive (329) or suspected of having coronavirus (64).

And 30 area ICU beds and 217 area acute care beds were available.

The Tennessee Department of Health reports statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. daily.

As of Thursday, the agency reported 428,973 total coronavirus cases, including 5,240 deaths, 2, 558 current hospitalizations and 382,444 inactive cases (recoveries).

About 4.8 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
