Tomorrow the Shelby County Health Department plans to begin using the Pipkin Building at the Mid-South Fairgrounds to vaccinate those in phase 1a1, funeral/mortuary workers and those 75 and older against the novel coronavirus. 

Shelby County’s updated vaccination schedule

The phone line — 901-222-SHOT (7468) — to schedule appointments (for those without internet access) was scheduled to open this morning, but Health Department staff took appointments over the weekend, according to director Alisa Haushalter. The online signup opened last Friday.

All slots for January are currently filled. The Health Department will announce when more appointments are available and it will provide another signup opportunity.

Appointments for first doses must be made via the Shelby County Health Department signup link. 

The 89 counties covered by Tennessee Department of Health will have separate signup links; Shelby County will have its own. 

Your coronavirus vaccine questions answered

As of Jan. 6, the Shelby County Health Department reported that 24,700 Shelby County residents have received a COVID-19 vaccine dose.

As of Jan. 7, the Tennessee Department of Health reported that 215,427 people in the state have received a COVID-19 dose; 4,561 of those have received their second dose.

Tennessee pauses teacher vaccinations for COVID as older adults get priority

The Shelby County Health Department reported 691 new coronavirus cases and 12 new coronavirus-related deaths on Monday, Jan. 11.

Those 691 cases come from 5,551 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 12.4%.

Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 74,508 cases, including 65,674 inactive cases (recoveries), 7,798 active cases and 1,036 deaths.

Updated hospital capacity figures were unavailable on Monday. The Health Department plans to add the weekend information to tomorrow’s update.

According to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System, as of 5 p.m. on Jan. 7, there were 614 COVID-positive patients in area hospital beds.

According to the HRTS, 95% of area intensive care unit and 93% of area acute care beds were in use; 22 area ICU and 175 area acute care beds were available.

The Tennessee Department of Health releases statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. daily.

As of Jan. 10, Tennessee’s reported coronavirus total is 653,869 cases, including 7,785 deaths, 3,085 current hospitalizations and 565,197 inactive cases (recoveries).

About 5.9 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
