Coronavirus: Second straight day of no new COVID-19 deaths

According to the latest Shelby County Health Department data, 72,201 people in Shelby County have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose. And 28,123 people have received both COVID-19 vaccine doses, meaning they are fully vaccinated.

And 100,324 total doses have been administered in Shelby County.

At the present time, Shelby County is vaccinating phase 1a1, 1a2 and those ages 70 and up on an appointment-only basis. Slots are currently filled, but people can check online or to call (901) 222-SHOT (7468) to be notified when appointments are available. People can also sign up for the VaxQueue standby list.

The Shelby County Health Department reported 84 new coronavirus cases and another day of zero new coronavirus-related deaths on Wednesday, Feb. 17.

Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 86,606 cases, including 82,780 inactive cases (recoveries), 2,385 active cases and 1, 441 deaths.

There were 249 COVID-positive patients in area hospital beds as of 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System.

According to the HRTS, 90% of area ICU and 89% of area acute care beds were in use.

About 22% of patients in area ICU beds were COVID-positive (77) or suspected of having the coronavirus (0). About 8% of patients in area acute care beds were either COVID-positive (8) or suspected of having the coronavirus (8).

And 37 area ICU and 248 area acute care beds were available.

Bed capacity is calculated by subtracting beds occupied by patients, unstaffed beds and beds that are otherwise unavailable.

The capacity figures are inclusive of all hospital facilities in Shelby, Tipton and Lauderdale counties in Tennessee as well as facilities in Crittenden County, Arkansas, and DeSoto County, Mississippi.

The Tennessee Department of Health releases statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. daily.


Weather closes all vaccination centers through Saturday


As of Tuesday, Tennessee’s reported coronavirus total is 759,523 cases, including 10,954 deaths, 1,106 current hospitalizations and 726,910 inactive cases (recoveries).

About 6.6 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
