Coronavirus: Cases slightly up but 7-day average remains under 100

As of today, the Shelby County Health Department has moved into Phase 1b of the state’s COVID-19 vaccination plan.This phase makes vaccination available to residents who are 65 years and older, plus teachers and child care staff.
According to the latest Shelby County Health Department data, 77,832 people in Shelby County have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose; 32,714 people have received both COVID-19 vaccine doses, meaning they are fully vaccinated.
In total, 110,546 total doses have been administered in Shelby County.
Vaccination slots are currently filled, but people can check online or call (901) 222-SHOT (7468) to be notified when appointments are available. People can also sign up for the VaxQueue standby list.
In today’s case data, the Shelby County Health Department reported 141 new coronavirus cases and zero new coronavirus-related deaths.
The day’s positivity rate was 10.8%, with the new cases coming from 2,105 tests.
Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 87,229 cases, including 84,388 inactive cases (recoveries), 1,381 active cases and 1,460 deaths.
There were 226 COVID-positive patients in area hospital beds as of 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System.
According to the HRTS, 91% of area ICU and 90% of area acute care beds were in use.
About 18% of patients in area ICU beds were COVID-positive (61) or suspected of having the coronavirus (43). About 8% of patients in area acute care beds were either COVID-positive (165) or suspected of having the coronavirus (43).
And 33 area ICU and 239 area acute care beds were available.
Bed capacity is calculated by subtracting beds occupied by patients, unstaffed beds and beds that are otherwise unavailable.
The capacity figures are inclusive of all hospital facilities in Shelby, Tipton and Lauderdale counties in Tennessee as well as facilities in Crittenden County, Arkansas, and DeSoto County, Mississippi.
The Tennessee Department of Health releases statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. daily.
As of Tuesday, Feb. 23, Tennessee’s reported coronavirus total is 767,315 cases, including 11,198 deaths, 998 current hospitalizations and 741,057 inactive cases (recoveries).
About 6,693,645 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
