The Mid-South is preparing for inclement weather, yet again.

In a storm during February, close to a foot of snow fell, and the area was hit with power outages across the city as well as a boil notice for water. 

The latest weather event is expected to last throughout the day Wednesday and bring heavy rain, high winds, and tornadic activity. The Memphis area is currently under a tornado watch until 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The City of Memphis has been preparing for the possible weather by clearing storm drains and checking other essential areas to help minimize the potential for street flooding, according to a press release from the city.

Some city streets have standing water at times because of the high amount of water entering the drainage system.

To help with this, the city is asking people to not put trash near curbs or drains. It is also asking citizens to notify them if they see standing water remaining in an area after a period of time.

The city also recommends homeowners clearing their own gutters, downspouts and drains to help prevent flooding. 

Drivers should also not drive through standing water, fallen trees, utility lines or around street barricades.
