Coronavirus: New cases hit two-month high

The Shelby County Health Department reported its highest new COVID-19 case total in two months Thursday, April 15.
The health agency reported 262 new cases and seven additional coronavirus deaths in its daily update. That’s the highest single-day total since the 263 new coronavirus cases reported Feb. 13.
The 262 additional cases came from 3,247 tests, yielding an 8.1% positivity rate.
A total of 283,929 people are vaccinated in Shelby County. The number of people partially vaccinated is 114,401, while 169,528 people are fully vaccinated.
Overall, the Health Department has reported 92,374 total coronavirus cases and 1,593 deaths, classifying 90,129 cases as inactive/recovered.
More than 1.1 million COVID-19 tests have been performed in Shelby County, yielding a 10% positivity rate.
The Health Department did not release updated area hospital capacity figures Thursday morning.
The Tennessee Department of Health releases statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. each day.
As of Wednesday, Tennessee’s statewide coronavirus total is now 827,579 coronavirus cases, including 12,032 deaths, 812 current hospitalizations and 802,134 are inactive cases.
About 7.4 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
