Murders up 44% in Memphis through first quarter of 2023
“How do you directly intervene with these people who (are) killing people, get them off the street?” Memphis City Council member Dr. Jeff Warren asked. “It is 80% social work and 20% police work. And without both components, we can’t go forward.” (Ziggy Mack/The Daily Memphian file)
As of March 30, there had been 78 murders in Memphis this year compared to 54 murders at the same point in 2022, according to Memphis Police Department data.
